New paper published - Experience curves for electrolyzers
We are pleased to announce the publication of the article "Derivation of one- and two-factor experience curves for electrolysis technologies" in the International Journal of Hydrogen Energy (Impact Factor 8.1, Cite Score 13.5).
The paper by doctoral student Lauritz Bühler(project H5) and his supervisor Prof. Dominik Möst, Chair of Business Administration, esp. Energy Economics, examines the development of electrolysis technologies for the production of green hydrogen.
In business and politics, green hydrogen is seen as a promising energy carrier that contributes to the decarbonization of the energy system. However, green hydrogen is still significantly more expensive than conventionally produced (gray) hydrogen. Its competitiveness depends heavily on the expected development of investment costs and the electricity consumption of electrolysers, as well as the cost of the green electricity required.
In the new publication, experience curves are used to estimate the technological development of electrolysers. In the publication, the experience rates are calculated using one- and two-factor experience curves for CAPEX and one-factor experience curves for electricity consumption. An independent and comprehensive database for CAPEX, electricity consumption and cumulative installed capacity was developed for this purpose.
