Successful third PhD Day at the Faculty of Environmental Sciences
The Faculty of Environmental Sciences at TU Dresden successfully hosted its third doctoral event on February 13, 2025 in the Judeich Building in Tharandt. Participants were scientists from the three faculties of Water Sciences, Earth Sciences and Forest Sciences.
The event began with a welcome address by the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr. Peter Krebs. Prof. Dr. Matthias Mauder, Chair of Meteorology (photo top right) and supervisor of the F3 project at the Boysen- TU Dresden- Research Training Group, then gave a lecture entitled "Scientific Peer Review: Insights into the academic melting pot". His presentation captivated many early-career researchers, and in the Q&A session he shared his experiences as a scientific peer reviewer and academic author. Benjamin Griebe, press officer at TU Dresden with a focus on social media, then spoke about the importance and challenges of sharing scientific opinions on social media. He gave an insightful overview of the popularity of different platforms and how they can be used to showcase the university's valuable research work.
One of the highlights of the PhD Day was the "poster blitz" session in the morning, a two-minute presentation of the research topic using just one slide. In the afternoon, the researchers presented their work again with poster contributions. Among others, Sampath Weerappulli (photo above left), fellow of the Boysen-TUD-RTG and researcher of the F3 project, presented the results of his simulations. The session was a valuable opportunity for participants to present their research and receive constructive feedback from colleagues.
The researchers would like to thank Prof. Dr. Matthias Mauder, Prof. Dr. Andreas Hartmann and Prof. Dr. Marieke van der Maaten-Theunissen for organizing this valuable and very informative event, and look forward to a repeat next year - with new research results and far-reaching insights.
