Scientific Exploration of the Green Hydrogen Future
As the world struggles with energy and climate crises, green hydrogen is a revolutionary solution that has the potential to completely change the energy system and support a sustainable future. A considerable aspect of the current energy transition is the production of hydrogen from renewable energy sources, which in turn helps mitigate the environmental impacts of conventional approaches.
Green hydrogen serves as a key energy carrier in addressing challenges related to energy security and climate change. Its versatility in applications, from industrial processes to transportation and energy production, makes it a key player in diversifying energy sources and reducing dependence on fossil fuels. However, the path to widespread adoption is fraught with challenges, including production, import, transportation, and usage issues. The Autumn School aims to delve deeper into these areas and explore innovative technologies and solutions that can contribute to the development of the green hydrogen sector.
It is important to take into account that green hydrogen has an impact not only on technological aspects, but on social issues as well. Discussions concerning society's involvement in the development of green hydrogen are vital. To ensure that this innovative technology is integrated smoothly, it is imperative to comprehend the sociological factors, such as public acceptance, perception, and the impact of science communication. By encouraging a comprehensive approach that acknowledges the connection between technology and society, the Autumn School aims to bridge the gap between the courses, with a focus on technological and sociological issues.
The autumn school mainly concentrates on “the future of green hydrogen” based on four different hydrogen value chains: Production, Transport, Usage, Impact.

What, When and for Whom
From September 30th to October 2nd, 2024, the Boysen-TU Dresden-Research Training Group is set to host an Autumn School focusing on Green Hydrogen Energy Value Chains. This event aims to assemble master students, PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers, and early-career professionals drawn from diverse disciplinary backgrounds. In particular, the event's inclusive nature welcomes participants not only from the spheres of natural science, engineering, technology, business, and economics, but also from the purview of social science, fostering a rich and comprehensive interdisciplinary discourse.
Interdisciplinary and Diverse
The core aim of the Autumn School lies in arranging an unparalleled platform for cross-disciplinary exchange and cooperation, facilitating a holistic approach to problem-solving and knowledge dissemination. The Autumn School program will include a variety of intellectual activities over the course of three days, including lectures, workshops, panel discussions, and a hackathon session. The program will include respected outside speakers from academia, industry, and government who are known for their contributions to the study of the hydrogen energy value chain. Discussions will encompass various facets of hydrogen energy, including production, transportation, utilization, and the broader implications thereof.
Skill Training in Group Work
Moreover, the Autumn School seeks to actively involve participants in addressing relevant challenges through collaborative problem-solving exercises during the hackathon session. In these sessions, participants will be divided into multiple teams to engage in a spirited competition focused on developing creative solutions to the given problems. This environment is designed to foster innovative thinking, enhance problem-solving skills, and promote effective teamwork.
Interested individuals are invited to peruse the comprehensive program plan.
Call for applications
The Boysen-TU Dresden-Research Training Group extends an open call for applications from master students, PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers, and young professionals from all academic and professional domains. Successful applicants will receive formal invitations, and their active participation throughout the entire three-day program is strongly encouraged.
For further details on application procedures and participation fees, interested master students, PhDs, and young professionals are directed to the application itself.
Supporting Organizations
This Autumn School is made possible through the support and funding from TU Dresden and the Friedrich and Elisabeth Boysen-Foundation, whose commitment we are very thankful for.
