With creativity to new solutions in challenging times
The past months of study were strongly influenced by the pandemic situation. Measures against the virus are still in place at TUD. These require new forms of implementation of teaching and research. Prof. Henning Haupt, holder of the professorship for design theory, turned this challenge into an opportunity and quickly relocated a lecture to the Lukaskirche.
It goes without saying that architects bring a lot of creativity to their studies and work. The lecturers at the university were looking for ways to still be able to organize events in the presence of the currently applicable measures. For this special requirement, large rooms are required, which are only available to a limited extent at the university. While preparing the lectures for the winter semester, Prof. Haupt remembered an unusual offer from the Protestant community not far from campus. The Lukaskirche could be used as a venue for lectures and, thanks to its size, is currently suitable as such. The imaginative idea was implemented right on time for the start of the semester.
Last Friday, on October 29th, 2021, the first lecture of Design 1 took place in Dresden's Lukaskirche. Prof. Haupt welcomed around 150 students to the classroom event. Using new rooms, being inspired and learning together - the new lecture venue in the Lukaskirche in the south of Dresden makes all of this possible. In addition to a unique ambience, the heated church also offered sufficient space to implement the measures. In front of the entrance portal of the church, the student council for architecture and landscape architecture provided the students with warm coffee. The entire lecture is to take place in the Lukaskirche for the winter semester.
