Cantonal school Romanshorn
Module no.: AD 911
Supervision: Prof. Ansgar Schulz, Prof. Benedikt Schulz, Gerhard Heise, Christian Wischalla
Romanshorn is a village in the municipality of the same name on the southern shore of Lake Constance in the Swiss canton of Thurgau. The cantonal school opened in 1969. It is a place of learning and living for a diverse and multi-layered school community. The school is surrounded by greenery with standard fruit trees, biotopes, outdoor classrooms and extensive outdoor sports facilities. Four buildings characterize the current campus.
The expansion of the cantonal school is to take place on the existing site and with careful continued use or further development of the existing buildings. The extension should also be used to create the structural and architectural context for successful learning processes at the cantonal school and to develop sustainable spatial school concepts.

Cultural island Aschersleben
Municipal Museum and Neo Rauch Gallery
Module no.: AD 911
Supervision: Prof. Ansgar Schulz, Prof. Benedikt Schulz, Gerhard Heise, Christian Wischalla
Aschersleben and Neo Rauch - the oldest town in Saxony-Anhalt and one of the most important painters of modern times. Neo Rauch has very close ties with the town of Aschersleben. He grew up here and the Neo Rauch Graphic Foundation, which he founded, has been exhibiting his graphic work since 2012.
The town is characterized by numerous unique historical buildings. It is one of the few cities in Germany where the medieval city fortifications with city gates and towers are still largely intact. Some of the important historical exhibits are on display in the municipal museum.
The new Aschersleben Cultural Island with the Municipal Museum and the Neo Rauch Gallery for his large-format oil paintings is to be built on a unique plot of land in the middle of the old town. In collaboration with the city of Aschersleben and Neo Rauch, we will be working on this design topic in the coming semester in the diploma and advanced design and will be conducting a joint excursion at the beginning of the semester.

Summer semester 2023
Muskator
Revitalization of an industrial icon on the Elbe
Module no.: AD 911
Supervision: Prof. Ansgar Schulz, Prof. Benedikt Schulz, Gerhard Heise, Christian Wischalla
Hermann Schmidt laid the foundation stone of the Muskator-Werke when he produced his first compound feed on a small scale in Radevormwald near Wuppertal in 1903. The "Muskator" company was founded in 1911 and was based in the port of Düsseldorf. It was managed centrally from here. Management, administration, purchasing, sales, product development and marketing were all based here. From 1930, other brands such as "Ovator" were taken over by "Westdeutsche Mühlenwerke GmbH". A second plant was built in Bamberg in 1962 and further plants in Mannheim in 1966 and Deggendorf in 1969. From 1987, two employees took over the management of the company as shareholders. In 1990, the Saxon "Muskator-Werke Tierernährung GmbH & Co. KG Riesa" was founded. The merger with the other plants did not take place until 1994. The turn of the millennium brought a change in the business situation, as the company had miscalculated the purchase of raw materials. From the anniversary year of 2011, other company sites were sold in whole or in part - including the plant in Mannheim, which had the highest capacity utilization. Riesa, Bamberg and Deggendorf followed in 2012. March 7, 2013 marked the end of the company's history: "Muskator" filed for insolvency and ceased operations three weeks later.
The existing building structures are to undergo sustainable architectural development. New buildings, conversions and extensions are conceivable on the site. Your task is to develop various utilization concepts for this impressive complex in order to revitalize the area. There are no limits to your ideas. The results will flow into an overall urban and spatial planning idea, a distribution of functions and a spatial program for the main use you have identified. Whether you decide on a concert hall, a museum, a cultural campus, a conference hotel, a new Elb-Valley, a competitive sports center, co-working spaces or individual forms of housing for the main use or the main building is entirely up to you.
