Profile
The essence of a city lies in its constant transformation; by the people who build it and live in it, by social and technological change processes and by the impacts of local and global markets. Architects and urban planners play a fundamental role in effecting this transformation. They design spatial structures that can react accordingly to changes and simultaneously develop strategies for participating and co-producing these spaces.
The teaching and research area Urbanism and Design focuses on urban transformation processes in cities and regions. Parallel to the urban planning-related and architectural discourse, strategies for planning and developing cities and integrating stakeholders and users into the planning process are researched and disseminated. A cross-benchmark and interdisciplinary understanding of urban environments, urbanity and planning processes is the basis for this.
Focal points of this research include the “digital city” as a further development of the
technology-centric “smart city” and the communal production and co-creation of cities and spaces.
