Project Description

The objective of the project is to develop new design solutions for using NEEROGLAS (glass–plastic-composite panels) in construction. NEEROGLAS has not been tested to determine whether it meets the necessary requirements for use in building industry. High Potential is seen in ightweight mobile glass partition walls, as well in all-glass systems and glass balustrades. The mechanical functionality of the glass–plastic-composite panels must be guaranteed to meet the building industry requirements. Hence, these must first be defined in detail and limited in order to assess the wide-ranging applications.

The overall composite load-bearing behaviour needs to be investigated for its use in construction. The polymer materials used as interlayer core need to be modified in order to comply with the regulations. Moreover, the specifics of structural fittings and connections for NEEROGLAS must be designed. In addition to frictional and form-fit screw connections, local adhesive bonding may be considered. Numerical simulations are conducted throughout the entire development process. Component testings provide important findings about the load-bearing behaviour, both in the original state and after artificial ageing.

A final demonstartor reveals the lightness and practicability of the glass product in construction.
