25 Years Later—Back at the Beyer Building
Class Reunion for the Classes of 1995 and 1996
On Saturday, September 19, 2026, civil engineering graduates from the classes of 1995 and 1996 returned to the Faculty of Civil Engineering to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their graduation. Participants traveled from all over Germany, as well as from Switzerland and the Czech Republic, to attend the reunion.
Filled to capacity: the largest lecture hall in the Beyer Building has 117 seats.
The event kicked off with a group photo in front of the Beyer Building, before the official program began at 3:00 p.m. in Lecture Hall E40. Dean Prof. Beckmann welcomed the former students. Dr.-Ing. Matthias Lugenheim of Matthes Ingenieure GmbH then gave a comprehensive presentation providing insights into the recently completed renovation of the Beyer Building. As a key contributor to the structural engineering of the project, he explained in particular the structural challenges of the renovation.
The presentation was complemented by two guided tours of the building. Dr.-Ing. Lugenheim and project architect Mr. Schoppe from H.F.Z. Architekten (the Beyer Building consortium comprising HF Architektur GmbH and AGZ Zimmermann Architekten GmbH) provided insights into the planning and implementation of the renovation measures. The professional interest of the former civil engineers was clearly evident.
To wrap up the event on a social note, 135 participants gathered at the Waldparkrestaurant Blasewitz. The evening lasted into the early hours of the morning—and left everyone with a shared desire to repeat such a class reunion soon.
