Digitalization as the main topic of the 2026 Structural Analysis and Construction Practice Conference at TU Dresden
How can construction be digitized? Where is data generated, what data is actually needed, and how can this data be recorded, collected and made available to all those involved throughout the various usage cycles of a building? Why is this important at all, and how can AI speed up processes and make construction more economical - or is the digital transformation of planning perhaps even the prerequisite for solving increasingly complex planning issues, particularly in terms of resource efficiency or sustainability?
The plenary lectures by Dipl.-Ing. Jens Hoffmann (STRABAG) and Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Roland Wüchner (TU Munich) opened the first day of the 2026 Conference on Structural Analysis and Construction Practice at TU Dresden.
The real problems exist particularly at the interfaces between design, planning, execution, operation, conversion or dismantling - i.e. the transitions between the various phases of a building: "there are often data breaks," says Hoffmann. For him, digitization in the construction industry means, above all, consistently updating information and continuously integrating it into digital models - this is the only way to create true "digital twins" of a building.
Prof. Wüchner discussed model resolution, the purpose and the right data model as well as the process leading up to the digital twin. He emphasized the growing importance of digital tools for the planning of complex structures.
The plenary lectures are of particular importance at the Structural Analysis Conference: they form the framework for the content and provide the corresponding impetus for the event. The entire range of topics of the conference was covered in various parallel lecture blocks on both conference days.(to the program overview)
The evening conference dinner at the Hilton Dresden provided an opportunity for direct discussion, while the cultural highlight was an organ concert in Dresden's Hofkirche.
