Girl's Day at the Institute of Construction Materials 👷‍♀️
On April 3, 2025, it was that time again - the annual Girl's Day opened its doors and offered schoolgirls from all over Germany the opportunity to gain exciting insights into professional fields in which women are still underrepresented. This year, we were particularly pleased to welcome numerous schoolgirls from the 7th and 8th grades, who were curious and motivated to immerse themselves in the world of Civil Engineering for a day.
A special part of the program was the visit to the Alfred HĂĽtter Laboratory, which gave the young participants a hands-on impression of the work at the Institute. During a short but informative tour of the laboratory, the girls gained an initial insight into the wide range of tasks that civil engineers deal with on a day-to-day basis. They were given a clear explanation of how research and work is carried out at the interface between theory and practice - with a particular focus on concrete.
A small highlight of the day awaited at the end: the students were allowed to get creative themselves and literally lend a hand. With a lot of enthusiasm and a good deal of manual skill, they made colorful letters out of concrete - a souvenir that not only served as a memento, but also showed how versatile and tangible technology can be.
