"Kahnaletto" Anniversary Concrete Boat at Beyer-Bau

Since yesterday, an extraordinary exhibit has been welcoming visitors to the Beyer Building: the anniversary concrete boat “Kahnaletto” from our student concrete boat team at TU Dresden. The artistically designed boat is now on display in the foyer.

The name “Kahnaletto” is a tongue-in-cheek reference to Canaletto’s world-famous view of Dresden. In keeping with the concrete boat team’s 30th anniversary, the anniversary project’s motto was “30 Years of BBT: Decadently Excellent.” In their design report, the students describe their idea as follows: “Dresden and the Baroque go together like cement and water.” Accordingly, the boat combines engineering precision with Baroque design. Particularly impressive are the delicate ornaments, which were produced using a particle-bed 3D printer and give the boat its unmistakable character.

For many years now, the concrete boat team at TU Dresden has impressively demonstrated that a concrete boat can actually float while being surprisingly light and fast. At concrete boat regattas across Germany, the Dresden students are regularly among the most successful teams, demonstrating just how much engineering expertise, creativity, and teamwork goes into their designs.

By the way, anyone can join the concrete boat specialists, regardless of their field of study. Meetups are always on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. in VMB/E44. Anyone who would like to see this extraordinary exhibit up close is cordially invited to the Beyer Building, 2nd floor, central corridor.
