2026 East German Construction Industry Award: Two Awards for Female Graduates of the Faculty of Civil Engineering
Award winner Tanja Stoll with Regina Kraushaar (Minister of State for Infrastructure and Regional Development).
The East German Construction Industry Association (BIVO) has once again this year honored outstanding theses in the fields of Civil Engineering and architecture with the East German Construction Industry Award. With this award, which has been presented since 2004, the association honors innovative academic work while also highlighting the importance of early-career researchers in the construction industry.
Particularly gratifying: Two graduates from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at TU Dresden were honored in the field of Civil Engineering.
Tanja Stoll received the main prize for her thesis on the storability of temperature-reduced asphalts. In it, she investigated the influence of different storage times on the workability and material properties of these asphalt mixtures. The thesis addresses current issues in resource-efficient and sustainable construction practices and provides important insights for practical application.

Anna Reichel was awarded a special prize. Her work focuses on the fatigue resistance of composite dowel strips in a clothoid shape under transverse loading. The results make a valuable contribution to the further development of the relatively new steel-reinforced concrete composite construction method.
BIVO President Jörg Muschol emphasized the significance of the award-winning work for the future of construction: “The award-winning work demonstrates that the future of construction does not begin tomorrow, but is already being developed today at our universities. Whether it’s resource-efficient road construction, innovative structural solutions, the repurposing of former industrial sites, or the redesign of urban spaces—the award winners provide concrete answers to the challenges of our time.”
In addition to the awards in Civil Engineering, projects in the field of architecture were also honored. The grand prize was awarded to Alexander Ostrovskis and Leo Dinkelacker (HTWK Leipzig) for their transformation concept for repurposing Saxon spinning mills as sites for indoor farming. The special prize went to Luzie Dörfelt (TU Dresden), who developed a concept for the redesign of St. Petersburger Straße in Dresden.
The Faculty of Civil Engineering warmly congratulates Tanja Stoll and Anna Reichel on this special award and wishes them every success in their future careers.
