From Dresden to Lübeck: Field Trip for the Road Construction and Transportation Specialization
At the end of June, this year’s field trip for the Road Construction and Transportation specialization took the students to Lübeck. Over the course of four days, the varied program offered exciting insights into current construction projects and the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting.

After arriving, the group explored Lübeck’s Old Town on a guided tour, taking in its most famous landmarks such as the Holstentor, City Hall, and St. Mary’s Church. The first day concluded with a group dinner.
The second day focused on a tour of the B76 construction site near Plön, featuring its unique road structure on soft subgrade, as well as a visit to an asphalt mixing plant in Lübeck. There, the students gained insights into the production process and the work of the plant’s in-house laboratory. A detour to the Marzipan Museum rounded out the day.
On the third day, the itinerary included the historic highway maintenance facility in Bad Oldesloe and a highway construction site near Lübeck. Particularly impressive was a massive boulder that had to be removed from the construction site using four excavators at the start of the project and now lies next to the highway.

The trip concluded with guided tours of the road construction and hydraulic engineering laboratories at Lübeck University of Applied Sciences. Since the university was holding an open house at the same time, the students were also able to visit numerous other facilities before returning to Dresden with many new impressions.
