Teaching Award of the Society of Friends and Sponsors of the TU Dresden e.V.
The Society of Friends and Supporters of Technische Universität Dresden has been awarding a prize for outstanding achievements in the field of education and training since 1995.
“Good teaching pays off!” - Call for applications for the Teaching Award 2021
Together, we are striving for excellence - motivated students and outstanding, qualified graduates of TU Dresden.
Innovative teaching methods in both digital or analog practice are central building blocks in this pursuit. The committed efforts of lecturers at TUD in education and further education in the academic year 2020/2021 are to be honored with the teaching award of the Society of Friends and Sponsors of Technische Universität Dresden. The prize is endowed with 30,000 euros. Courses from any faculty, as well as any of the Central Academic Institutions with teaching courses potentially have the chance to receive a teaching award - the prerequisite for this is the submission of the necessary applications.
Prize-worthy concepts are:
- Creative - teaching and examination methods that focus on competence transfer and take different learning types into account.
- Interactive - courses that encourage students to deal with current topics independently
- Participative - educational methods that prepare students for potential future careers or enable them to gain research experience.
Students, deans of studies, chairpersons of the schools, deans, the Extended University Executive Board, the student council and faculty students’ councils are all eligible to submit nominations. The prizes can be awarded to individuals or groups. The prize money is to be used for the further development of teaching.
At the Faculty of Civil Engineering, this prize was awarded to Dr.-Ing. Max Wiebicke and Prof. Ivo Herle for the course "Material Models for Soils". In the justification it says: "A completely new and modern teaching concept was created. With the help of interactive web pages, the soil models can be built, modified and graphically compared with experimental results. The implementation is done in Jupyter Notebook (Python) on the GitLab server. These dynamic teaching materials allow students to modify routines and get instant feedback on simulation results."
