Institute of Geotechnical Engineering at Alert Olek Zienkiewicz School 2025
PhD students Selma Schmidt, Z. Metehan Karslioglu and Sebastian Ullmann from our institute, along with Prof. Herle, took part in the Alert Olek Zienkiewicz School on Constitutive Modelling of Geomaterials, which took place from February 3 to February 7, 2025, at Charles University in Prague. The course focused on important topics in soil mechanics and constitutive modeling of geomaterials.
Prof. Herle gave lectures on the basics of soil testing and the mechanical properties of soils. The course combined theory with practical exercises on calibrating and analyzing advanced material models. Other topics covered included cyclic loading, multiphysical processes, and the use of machine learning in constitutive modeling of geomaterials.
Along with the lectures, there were opportunities to discuss the topics in more detail and ask questions. The course brought together PhD students and professors from different universities and allowed for the exchange of ideas with professionals in the field of geomechanics.
