Institute of Geotechnical Engineering at the ALERT Workshop 2024
The Institute of Geotechnical Engineering once again took part in this year's ALERT Workshop and the ALERT Doctoral School in Aussois. The Institute was represented by Selma Schmidt, Sebastian Ullmann and Metehan Karslioglu.
The topics of this year's workshop were: "Emerging properties in geomaterials across the scales", "Geomechanics in the submicron scale" and "Continuum-based particle methods". There was also a poster session in which Selma Schmidt presented a poster entitled "Fabric-strain relationship in REVs inside a shear band for a sand specimen in triaxial compression".
This year's Doctoral School focused on "Numerical Methods in Geomechanics". In addition to a comprehensive introduction to the finite element method and constitutive modeling, practical examples were also discussed and various simulations were carried out using finite element software.
