Project day 2025

Our annual project day took place again this year on Dies Academicus. We followed in the footsteps of the Rochlitz porphyry.

Our hike started in Wechselburg and took us to the Rochlitz mountain, where we visited the Haberkorn quarry and the Gleisberg quarry. Prof. Siedel gave us detailed information about the geological features of the Rochlitzer Berg, porphyry mining in the past and today and the special characteristics of the rock. The Rochlitz porphyry tuff was declared the first German heritage stone ("IUGS Heritage Stone") in 2022.

Afterwards, our hike led us back to Wechselburg via the forest adventure trail.
