Subcollection 5 - Geological History

It is presumed that the collection of Geological History has suffered major losses during the Second World War. However, there is no documentation to its original extent. Today, the stock contains approximately 3000 objects which were gathered by purchases in the 1950s and 1960s.

The earth’s history is documented by animal and plant fossils and typical rock handpieces. The handpieces are arranged in 10 show cases according to the geological eras and the palaeontological classification. Since the show cases have not been changed since the 1950s/60s, the presentation of geological history no longer meets the requirements of today's teaching in Regional and Historical Geology. The subcollection Geological History needs an urgent revision and modernization and therefore, it is currently inaccessible to the public.
