BIWO-07 Application of Computational Methods in Engineering (Case Studies)
Contents of the lecture
The lecture series ‚Case Studies‘ contains selected topcis in the field of civil engineering. In the field of geotechnical engineering the students will deal with slope stability calculations. Within the theoretical part analytical calculation approaches to determine slope stability are repeated. Furthermore, the importance of long- and short-term slope stability are discussed. During the practical part, the stability calculations are carried out with the software GeoSlope. The students will obtain an introduction to the software including the creation of the calculation modell, the input of soil parameters and the evaluation of calculation results.
For the analysis of slope stability an example from literature is discussed. By means of the given results from soil investigations the students will derive the soil parameters needed for the stability calculations. The compilation of the geometric model is carried out with the given geometry of the analyzed slope. In addition, the students will discuss the importance of the dimensions of the geometric model regarding the calculation results.
For this lecture knowledge in the field of soil mechanics is requested. The lecture is held in English.
