The WIR V2.A RE-PARK project develops a monolithic, highly wear-resistant, durable and pumpable surface protection system (OSS) from fibre-containing process waste or fibres obtained through recycling, for the new construction and refurbishment of car parks. The primary objective is to develop a pumpable and self-levelling top coat which, through the planned, multiple formation of cracks, enables crack widths of less than 50 µm. At these crack widths, the penetration of water and damaging chlorides is no longer possible. A further objective is the development of a mortar matrix that functions equally well with different fibre types and bundles, as well as various bonding methods, and is produced using cements with the lowest possible CO₂ emissions. To this end, the project systematically investigates the interrelationships between the fibre length, type and content incorporated, and their influence on the mechanical and rheological properties of the OSS. As part of the project, the project partners are developing test areas and a large-scale demonstrator. In addition, processes for the refurbishment and dismantling of the system are being developed and tested. Another key focus is on the subsequent processing and material recovery of the materials used. This includes, in particular, the processing and separation of the fibres, as well as the recycling of the OSS at the end of its life cycle. The dismantled OSS is also to be processed and subsequently utilised as an aggregate for the production of new materials. The aim is thus to establish a closed-loop material cycle in which both the mineral components and the fibres used can be reused after the end of their service life.
The Institute of Construction Management (IBB) at TU Dresden is identifying and analysing sources of carbon fibre-containing waste. Based on this waste, processing methods for cleaning, dust removal and the removal of the fibre coating are being validated and assessed using a SWOT analysis, with a view to subsequently drawing up a forecast of demand and utilisation. Upon completion of the project, recommendations for action and position papers will be drawn up.
The results achieved in the project will be presented upon its completion in such a way as to demonstrate the practical applicability of the developed solutions, promote knowledge transfer and enable potential users to be involved at an early stage.
