Abstract:
Conversion is gaining importance over time as an effective tool for sustainable urban development. This work explores the conversion of existing inner-city buildings in an exploratory way, with the aim of creating a guideline that contains all conversion-relevant parameters for existing buildings. To this end, a concrete definition of conversion is first developed. Furthermore, the conversion topic will be considered in a process-oriented manner and accordingly divided into three parts, namely the existing use, the subsequent use and the transformation process. As a concrete, currently relevant and sustainable conversion scenario, the existing use as an office building and the subsequent use as a residential building are selected. These are considered in a differentiated manner and then examined for their compatibility in a use-oriented manner. The transformation process is then considered in a guideline. Legal, building-specific and economic parameters relevant to conversion are collected and summarised in practical checklists and illustrations.
