Abstract:
This thesis deals with the search as well as the implementation of new business areas in small and medium-sized enterprises in the construction industry. These play a central role in the overall economy as well as in the German construction industry. Specifically, it is about the addition of new business areas in order to successfully counter cyclical as well as demand fluctuations in the future. As part of the discussion, an evaluation catalogue for small and medium-sized companies in the construction industry was created, since existing analyses are mainly tailored to medium to large companies from the stationary industry. These are analyses that take a closer look at both the company and its environment in order to highlight strengths and weaknesses. The central point of the work is a guideline for action. This is intended to help small and medium-sized construction companies to look for new business areas efficiently and without the help of external consultants on the basis of the results of the evaluation catalogue, to check these for compatibility and to consider possibilities for implementation. In addition, opportunities and risks associated with the implementation of new business fields are highlighted in order to sensitise entrepreneurs. The evaluation catalogue and the action guide are first applied to an existing company in order to check the functionality of the instruments.
