Abstract:
The People's Republic of China is the most populous country in the world, the third largest in terms of area, and home to the largest real estate market in the world. Already today, about 60 % of the Chinese population lives in a city, and the trend is rising. Especially in the large metropolitan regions, housing is a scarce commodity and thus a speculative object in an extremely volatile market. In the context of this diploma thesis, the development of the real estate market in the People's Republic of China, especially in the metropolitan areas, is examined. After a short historical overview up to the middle of the 20th century, the special features, boundary conditions and challenges regarding project development in the People's Republic of China and their realisation are presented. Furthermore, a substantiated research of the Chinese housing and property market is carried out, including the consideration of economic policy measures. Finally, the PRC real estate market is compared to the German market.
