Abstract:
Due to their large surface area in contact with the ground and their constant temperature conditions throughout the year, tunnel structures offer favourable conditions for geothermal use. This paper analyses the key factors influencing the implementation of geothermal systems in tunnel structures and identifies essential dependencies based on selected reference projects.
Based on this, the aim of the thesis was to develop implementation guidelines for the systematic selection of suitable geothermal systems in tunnel structures, taking into account project-specific constraints. These guidelines are intended to enable the early integration of tunnel geothermal systems into the overall planning process and serve as a decision-making aid in preliminary planning. In addition, structural engineering solutions were developed to tap the geothermal potential of existing tunnels, which has been largely untapped to date. Finally, the guidelines presented were applied and evaluated using two example projects (new tunnel construction and existing tunnel).
