Abstract:
The thesis examines how business models and incentive systems can promote sufficient housing in the housing industry. It is based on
theoretical approaches and example projects from research, pilot projects, and practical projects that have already been implemented. Building on this, existing
business models and incentive systems from the real estate and construction industries were analyzed and systematically evaluated using a catalog of criteria based on the German Sustainable Building Council (BNB) assessment system. The results show that return-oriented models are only marginally compatible with sufficiency principles, while cooperative and public welfare-oriented organizational forms perform significantly better. Newly developed models and instruments illustrate that sufficiency-oriented principles can in principle be translated into viable business models. At the same time, however, it is clear that their implementation often depends on funding and institutional support, which limits their scalability. The work thus contributes to the identification of transformation paths for more sustainable housing development.
