Abstract:
This paper records and classifies the existing German bridge infrastructure. Building on this, the paper focuses on two scenarios that are intended to create a sustainable and solution-oriented future strategy for bridge maintenance in Germany. On the one hand, it deals with the theoretical renovation requirements that exist when clear safety-related target requirements are set for the condition of bridges. On the other hand, the funds of the special infrastructure fund were analysed with regard to their use for bridge maintenance. The determination of material and resource requirements and the evaluation of the construction implementation were carried out as part of this analysis. As a result of these evaluations, it was found that approximately 20% of bridges are in need of renovation according to the defined safety requirements. The financial resources of the special fund are almost sufficient for this measure. However, implementation is reaching its limits in terms of capacity and organisation.
