Abstract:
This paper analyses the obstacles and barriers to the use of renewable raw materials in construction. Based on a comprehensive literature review and an empirical survey of experts, it becomes clear that insufficient regulatory frameworks, a lack of building approvals, economic price and market differences, and knowledge deficits in particular are hindering the widespread use of renewable raw materials. Technically, these building materials, such as wood, clay, straw or hemp, offer not only ecological advantages but also comparable performance to conventional building materials. The paper develops recommendations for action to adapt normative framework conditions, strengthen research and education, and create economic incentive systems. Finally, it emphasises the necessary change in the construction industry, as it contributes centrally to the achievement of climate protection goals.
