Teaching materials for lectures and exercises are stored for all courses (modules) offered. These are made available on the OPAL learning platform and can be accessed by using the ZIH login.

Exams

All examinations in the subject area of building materials are offered in each examination period. Enrolment takes place via the examination office of the respective faculty. Examination dates of the Institute for Building Materials are additionally announced on these pages. Inspection of completed examinations is offered, whereby the dates are to be agreed individually.

Project work and theses

The Institute of Construction Materials offers a wide range of topics for project work and theses that are closely linked to the current research of the scientific staff. Questions from a wide range of subject areas can be dealt with.

Content Basic, Foundation and Advanced Studies

Knowledge is imparted on the composition, processing, structure, properties and areas of application of structural building materials, materials of the finishing trades as well as materials for the repair and reinforcement of existing structures. New technologies for the development and application of high-performance composite materials on a mineral basis are the focus of teaching and research. A great deal of attention is paid to the problems of the durability of materials in the maintenance and renovation of existing structures.

Basic studies

Here the topics are building material basics, organic and metallic building materials as well as inorganic, non-metallic building materials. The courses are offered for civil engineers, educational scientists, industrial engineers and students of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences.

Undergradu­ate studies

Building on the basic studies, the modules Mechanics of Materials in Solid Construction, Fracture Mechanics in Steel and Timber Construction and Building Materials Technology in Foundation Engineering can be selected to expand the knowledge and interrelationships of building materials.

Advanced studies

Acquired knowledge of building materials and interrelationships are deepened in special modules according to new technologies in research and development. The modules High Performance Concrete, Building in Existing Contexts, Concrete in Hydraulic Engineering, Maintenance of Structures and Building Materials (ACCESS) are available for selection.
