Bautag 2024 - Awards from the East German construction industry for graduates of the Institute of Concrete Structures
Last Friday, the Bauindustrieverband Ost e. V. invited guests to its traditional Construction Day in Dresden. A highlight of the evening was the awarding of the East German Construction Industry Prize by Minister of State Oliver Schenk, State Secretary Thomas Kralinski, Prof. Michael Kaliske and Association President Jörg Muschol.
Two of the four prizes went to students whose work was produced at the Institute of Concrete Structures. Sebastian Thiele was awarded the East German Construction Industry Prize for his thesis entitled "Experimental investigations into the composite behavior of fiber-optic sensors". In his presentation, Mr. Thiele was able to show the participants the potential of continuous strain measurement with fibre-optic sensors using the example of crack monitoring. Fabian Schülke's diploma thesis "Evaluation and recalculation of historical railroad bridges" was awarded a special prize. Both theses contribute to a more responsible approach to existing infrastructure structures.
The Institute of Concrete Structures would like to thank the Bauindustrieverband Ost e. V. for this great initiative for the promotion of early-career researchers and wishes the award-winning graduates all the best for their future careers!
