Building bridges and testing at Girls' Day 2026
Filigree or solid - which construction carries more weight?
Today was another Girls' Day at the TUD Dresden University of Technology - and things got really practical here at the Otto Mohr Laboratory.
Schoolgirls in grades 5 and 6 designed and built their own bridge models at the Institute of Concrete Structures and then tested them live on site in a load test.
In addition to experimenting, the main aim was to provide an insight into studying and research. What do female engineers actually do in everyday life? What does it feel like to work in a laboratory? And can technology even be fun?
(Spoiler: yes. 😁 )
Every year, Girls' Day at Dresden University of Technology shows anew how important early encounters with STEM topics are - and how much curiosity there is in the next generations.
Thanks to everyone involved for the organization and to the students for their energy, questions and creative ideas!
PS: If you would like to try it out for yourself, you are welcome to visit us on Dresden Science Night: 26 June 2026 from 5 pm to 2 pm!
