INVITATION TO THE KICK-OFF OF "HyBridGen"
AI bridge design in HyBridGen
On April 1, 2024, the Institute of Concrete Structures at TUD Dresden University of Technology will launch the new joint research project "HyBridGen - Hybrid Bridge Generator". The project is scheduled to run from 01.04.2024 to 31.03.2027. This project, which is being funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) with around 2.7 million euros as part of the mFUND innovation initiative, aims to develop and test a largely automated bridge generator. This generator is intended to create plausible bridge designs in an early planning phase based on processed data sets from the BMDV, engineering knowledge and experience as well as project-specific boundary conditions. With the help of artificial intelligence (AI), these designs are not only generated, but also visualized photo-realistically and made explainable in order to enable interactive human-machine interactions (MMI) for complex infrastructure projects with reduced risks.
The HyBridGen project will revolutionize bridge design by using AI applications to create qualitative and buildable designs quickly and without complex planning processes. These will be based on existing route and geodata and take greater account of citizens' needs, facilitating and democratizing public participation in early project phases. In addition, an ontology of interdisciplinary requirements is being developed that serves as a basis for machine learning and enables fast, valid designs based on criteria such as environmental data, load capacity and budget. These will be validated in a pilot project in the Central German lignite mining area, which will significantly increase the efficiency and quality of bridge planning while minimizing risks and increasing public acceptance through early involvement.
