Funding confirmed: Nationwide construction research center to be established from 2024
The "LAB – Living Art of Building" research center, initiated by Prof. Manfred Curbach from TU Dresden, will now be established in Bautzen and expanded to include various locations throughout Germany. The federal government, districts and municipalities have confirmed the funding.
A unique, nationwide project for the future
The LAB will be developed over several years starting in 2024. In the future, around 1,250 employees from science and technology will conduct research and development in laboratory facilities that are unique worldwide. Close cooperation with industry is expected to create up to 40,000 jobs in and around the LAB in the long term.
LAB is the key to climate-neutral and resource-efficient construction
In future, the LAB will provide answers to crucial questions in the construction industry, which currently produces over 25 percent of global CO2 emissions and accounts for 40 percent of global energy consumption. Construction waste makes up almost 60 percent of the annual volume of waste in Germany. The LAB will conduct intensive fundamental research to find solutions and ideas for the development of new materials, technologies, processes and further digitization on a large scale.
