SFB/TRR 280 Concrete ART Project 2024
A vacation week with concrete
From June 24 to 28, 2024, Dresden schoolchildren experienced an extraordinary summer vacation project week at Albrechtsberg Castle: the "Concrete ART Project 2024". During this exciting week, organized by the SFB/TRR 280 of TU Dresden and the Dresden Youth Art School, 21 young participants immersed themselves in the fascinating world of concrete. How strong is concrete - why do you need reinforcement? How does concrete sound - can you make music with it?
Supported by Research Associates from TU Dresden and four dedicated lecturers from Dresden, the young researchers found exciting ways of combining concrete with other materials and making it vibrate to produce sounds. A special highlight of the week was the visit to the carbon concrete house CUBE on the TU Dresden campus. The children experienced an exciting load test with unreinforced and reinforced concrete slabs and gained an insight into the future of building with carbon concrete. In midsummer temperatures, they busily poured, sawed, cut, folded, glued and decorated in the workshops of the youth art school and made new friends in the process.
At the end of the project week, the concrete creations made during the week were proudly presented to the numerous parents and grandparents in an exhibition. The project week impressively demonstrated how closely art and science can be linked and the creative potential of this combination.
The "Concrete ART Project 2024" is a renewed cooperation between TU Dresden and the Dresden Youth Art School. The project week was accompanied by Research Associates from TU Dresden, who provided on-site support with their expertise, technical support and exciting experiments.
