20/05/29 - Funding of the Collaborative Research Center / Transregio 280 confirmed by the DFG
The German Research Foundation (DFG) decided to fund several new collaborative research centers at the TU Dresden. One of the new projects is the CRC / TRR 280 in cooperation with the RWTH Aachen within the research area of carbon concrete with the title "Design strategies for material-minimised carbon reinforced concrete structures – Principles of a new approach to construction." In a total of 21 sub-projects, new construction strategies for carbon concrete will be developed and investigated in this CRC/TRR from July 2020 on. More details can also be found at: https://tu-dresden.de/bu/bauingenieurwesen/imb/das-institut/news/sonderforschungsbereich-transregio-280.
At the Institute of Mechanics and Shell Structures the sub-project C05 "Multiscale method for the simulation of the resilience and the fracture behaviour of heterogeneous structures" will be worked on. In this sub-project it is planned to expand the multiscale projection method developed in the past years for three-dimensional structures with micro and macro cracks as well as for the simulation of fiber kinking in fiber-reinforced plastics for shell-like carbon concrete structures with arbitrarily distributed pores and cavities as well as micro and macro cracks to simulate possible crack propagation on different scales.
This allows for the assessment of the resilience of the carbon concrete structures designed with the construction strategies developed in the CRC/TRR 280 to various combined external loads and for the improvement of the construction strategies that are developed in cooperation with various other sub-projects.
