Abstract
The aim of the project is to develop structural engineering measures for the upgrading of existing pavements or for new construction in the event of hard shoulder use by heavy goods traffic. With the aid of models for simulating the stresses on asphalt and concrete pavements when heavy goods vehicles use the hard shoulder and the resulting service life forecasts for the pavements when the paved area is driven over close to the edge, these structural engineering measures will be justified. Taking into account the times of use per day, these measures on the hard shoulders should achieve a service life comparable to that of the main lane.
On the basis of economic feasibility studies, the measures are ranked and text proposals for the incorporation of the measures into the dimensioning-relevant regulations of the FGSV are developed.
