FUN* Team
Putting a face to the name – the FrauenUmweltNetzwerk* team introduce themselves!
Renée-Sophie: Hello! I am Renée, 25 years old and I am studying Tropical Forestry at TU Dresden. Since December 2022 I am part of the team of the FrauenUmweltNetzwerk* and I am passionate to support women in environmental sciences and to network with other women. In my previous studies and internships as a forest scientist, I have noticed how few women* are represented in traditionally male fields, and thus role models and allies with similar conditions and problems are rare to meet. Not only because the proportion of women is still very low, but also due to the double burden of care work and their careers most women have no time for networking. As a result, men have an additional advantage through contacts to get good job opportunities and cooperation. Enabling women* to have their own network and thereby gain more benefits and opportunities is very important to me! I am looking forward to meet you in the network and at the workshops and gatherings!
Jule: I joined the FUN* team in June 2022 and am excited to get involved in university life while pursuing my studies in Hydrosciences. Gender equality and equal opportunity in particular are important issues for me. I’m inspired by working with people to change current social structures. The work that FUN* does helps increase the visibility of women in science who could serve as role models for students. I believe that diversity in natural and environmental sciences in particular has a positive effect in the long term. After years of virtual interaction, I am particularly looking forward to taking part in networking events and workshops in person. Interaction with one another enables people to start their careers on equal footing. This is something I wish for myself, but I also want to support as many people as possible in their transition to professional life. I also look forward to the opportunity to meet new students through my work with FUN*, to raise their awareness to the topics that FUN* is concerned with, and to awaken their enthusiasm for this field of activity.
