FUN* Team
That's us!
We are the faces behind the FrauenUmweltNetzwerk* at TU Dresden!
Sophia: Aloha! From September 2023, I am very happy to be part of the FrauenUmweltNetzwerk* and to raise awareness for equal opportunities in science, but also in everyday life. During my studies of geosciences at TU Dresden, I became aware of how much science and teaching at the university is still largely dominated by men. Female role models in all areas of life, but especially in research, are incredibly important for orientation during studies as well as in later professional life. The FUN* enables the formation of a network of women for women. At the same time, we draw attention to the fact that diversity and equal rights are writ large everywhere, but if we are honest, not much actually happens when it comes to implementation.
"There are two powers in the world: one is the sword and the other is the pen. There is a third power stronger than both, that of women." ~Malala Yousafzai
I am very much looking forward to inspiring and educating others and planning events together. The FUN* enables me to build up a network that I can also use later. I want to pass on these benefits and get others excited about our topics.
Jule: I'm looking forward to joining the FUN* team from June 2022 and getting involved in university life alongside my studies in hydrosciences. Equality and, above all, equal opportunities are important to me and working with people to change social structures inspires me. The work of FUN* contributes to more visibility of women in science, who can be role models, especially for students. I believe that diversity contributes to sustainable development, especially in scientific and environmentally-oriented fields. After a long period of online interaction, I am particularly looking forward to networking events and workshops taking place in person. The exchange with each other helps to facilitate the start of a career for everyone equally. I don't just want this for myself, I also want to help as many people as possible to make a smooth transition after their studies. I also look forward to getting to know new students through my work at FUN*, introducing them to the topics and areas of work that FUN* is committed to and getting them excited about them.
Nele: I have been happy to support the FUN team since January 2024, having already gained several years of experience in the equal opportunities work of the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering and especially through the equal opportunities project "NExT". Although many of my fellow students on the Molecular Biology and Biotechnology Bachelor's degree program are female, it is particularly apparent how low the proportion of women is in advanced career stages or other degree programs. In order to increase the proportion of women in research, in addition to creating role models and destigmatizing role models, it is very important to create a network for the exchange of women in similar phases of life. FUN has therefore set itself the goal of networking female students in particular and giving them soft skills along the way. Personally, the equal status of women in society, research and work is very important to me, which is why I enjoy being part of this network. Together, we can contribute to taking a small step towards equality.
