Guest scientist from South Africa
Johan van Tol (2nd from left) is an Associate Professor at the University of the Free State Bloemfontein, South Africa. His research interests include the interactions between soil and water (hydropedology), in particular water and sediment transport along hillslopes. He has published internationally in high-ranking journals on these topics. His regional research focus is southern Africa with its extensive dry and semi-arid areas. With Dr. van Tol's expertise reserach activities of the Tharandt Soil Science, which have so far concentrated on East Africa (Kenya, Mozambique, Tanzania), will be extended to southern Africa. As a "Dresden Fellow 2019" he stays for one moth at the Institute, where he works mainly with Dr. Stefan Julich (left). The South African guest was warmly welcomed by Professors Karl-Heinz Feger (2nd from right) and Karsten Kalbitz (right).
