Tharandt Forest Soil Nature Trail
The soil nature trail shows the diversity and the important value of the region’s typical soils. The trail is used for teaching purposes and for general environmental education.
The development, composition, and ecosystem functions of different soils are presented in 9 information areas with 6 excavated soil profiles.
At the information sites, explanation boards illustrate the interdependency between soil characteristics, vegetation, and land use. The complex connections to geology, the present and past regional climate, and regional history are also examined.
The soil nature trail was jointly designed and developed by the Sächsischen Landesamt für Umwelt, Landwirtschaft und Geologie (LfULG) and the Institute of Site Ecology and Soil Science of the TU Dresden. The installation of the trail was strongly supported by the Staatsbetrieb Sachsenforst. The soil nature trail was inaugurated in the summer of 2009.
The information material is only available in German language. For further information please contact the persons listed below.
