The Chair of Forest Zoology
Research and teaching at the Professorship for Forest Zoology is focusing on the distribution and diversity of animals in forests, interactions between animals, plants and fungi, as well as on the functional importance of animals for ecosystem processes.
The professorship is part of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Department of Forest Science and belongs to the Institute for Forest Botany and Forest Zoology located at the campus Tharandt, near Dresden.
We teach basics (taxonomy, physiology, diversity) and advanced topics of zoology and animal ecology within the study programs Forest Science, …. And Tropical Forestry and Management.
Our research aims at improving general knowledge of animal ecology which forms the basis for developing advanced land-use management and conservation strategies. Topics of our research group into four themes: diversity patterns of animal communities and their drivers, interactions between animals, plants and fungi, spatio-temporal distribution of animals and the functional role of animals for ecosystem processes.
