Start of the teaching project ForstHolz-Video
Starting signal for "PraxisForst-Video": Making forestry training digital and practical
Forestry university teaching is receiving an innovative boost: the new joint project "PraxisForst-Video" has been launched. The aim of this pioneering initiative is to enrich the training of future forestry experts by developing high-quality, didactically prepared educational videos on the key topics of timber harvesting, timber transport and logistics.
A consortium of four renowned forestry universities - TUD Dresden University of Technology (TUD) as the lead university, Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development (HNEE), Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences (HSWT) and Bern University of Applied Sciences (HAFL) - are pooling its expertise and resources for this purpose.
Practical relevance meets digitalization
Forestry practice is diverse and often geographically dispersed. Processes such as the use of cable cranes or the complex logistics of timber loading cannot always be experienced by students directly on site. This is where "PraxisForst-Video" comes in: The planned educational videos are intended to serve as an ideal supplement to excursions and internships and enable even complex processes to be conveyed in a clear and sustainable way. A particular focus is on integrating the advancing digitalization in these areas.
"With 'PraxisForst-Video', we not only want to impart knowledge, but also arouse enthusiasm and strengthen the bridge between theory and practice," explains Prof. Dr. Thomas Purfürst from the TUD. "Cooperation between the participating universities is the key to success. Together, we can create content that meets the highest scientific standards and at the same time is optimally tailored to the needs of students."
Openly accessible and sustainable
The educational videos created as part of the project will be license-free and publicly accessible after completion. They will not only be used in courses at the partner universities, but will also be available to all forestry-related educational institutions and the interested specialist public. The project is scheduled to run for nine months, but the content developed will be used as a sustainable knowledge resource in the long term and can be updated as required.
The "PraxisForst-Video" project promises to make an important contribution to the modernization of forestry teaching and to optimally prepare students for the challenges of sustainable forest management.
Thanks to the partners
We would like to thank all participating universities and their teams for their commitment and expertise in making this pioneering project possible.
Special thanks go to the Sattelmühle Foundation for funding the joint project.
