Chair of Forest Utilization
The importance of forests as valuable ecosystems for the preservation of the natural basis of human life is undisputed and their role in reducing the greenhouse effect is recognized. In addition, nature produces the raw material wood in the forests and forestry provides it sustainably. The need for sustainable, environmentally friendly and diverse use of wood is obvious: at least 3.3 billion cubic meters of wood are used worldwide every year. The role of wood as a cultural carrier in the past, today and in the future becomes clear when you consider the great variety of wood species and wood products and their technical and design properties, e.g. the violin, the children's playground, the roof truss of a house, a sports hall or your favorite book.
The versatility of the Chair of Forest Utilization is expressed in the various research projects and industrial contracts on the subject of wood/tree work, starting with wood anatomical and wood physical investigations, continuing with work on raw wood sorting, wood quality, the use of wood and ending with ancillary forestry uses.
