- Capacity of natural and close to nature constructed wetlands to eliminate radionuclides, heavy metals and arsenic (Ph.D. Project Mrs. K. Aretz financial support by state of Saxony(until 2008) and Mr. Wang Weiqing, 2012-2016, NRF P.R. of China)
- Radionuclide and arsenic immobilisation related to carbon sequestration and burial in sediments of wetlands and streams (Ph.D. project M. Nassour 2008-2013, various financial supporters, among others Syrian government )
- Nutrient and trace contaminant (C/Si/Ca/N/P, U, Ra, Pb, As) uptake, recycling, immobilisation and ecological stoichiometrics in the course of litter decay (PhD and Habilitation project Jörg Schaller, 2008-2014, since 2014 University of Bayreuth)
