AQUATAG
The project AQUATAG is aimed at quantifying the impact and the behaviour of different groups of people that carry out recreational activities in and around freshwaters. The project combines innovative research approaches and novel data sources such as geo-tagged social media data to derive new management approaches balancing the human need for recreation and the integrity of freshwater ecosystems.
The Chair for Biodiversity and Nature Conservation engages in the analysis of the ecological impacts of water-based recreational activities on aquatic ecosystems. We study the impacts of swimming and walking on the shoreline of lakes with the help of Terrestrial laser scanning. We capture the dynamics of impacts on selected natural lakes in the nature park Dahme-Heideseen during on vegetation period and bathing season.
