Management change at the Chair of ­Forest Policy and Forest Resource Economics

Staff changes in the Chair of Forest Policy and Forest Resource Economics: Prof. Norbert Weber and Prof. Peter Deegen retired at the end of March 2026. Both had a significant influence on the chair’s areas of focus over many years, continuously refined its academic direction, and established it at a high international level in both research and teaching.

Until a permanent successor is appointed, Dr. Renke Coordes will serve as acting chair and oversee research and teaching in the field of Forest Resource Economics.

Forest policy

The science of forest policy addresses the complex relationships between forest, society and forestry. Accordingly, 80 million people, 11 million hectares of forest and approximately 2 million forest owners, and the interactions between these elements, represent the focal point of our studies in Germany.

Economics of forest resource

The economics of forest resources is concerned with the opportunities for and the challenges to cooperation between people for mutual benefit in relation to the forests.

Main research

Current research priorities of the chair include examination of the various levels of forest and environmental policy, the informal instruments applied in forest policy (monitoring, assessment, reporting), and the diversification of forest landscapes and their significance for society.
