Forest Resource Economics
The economics of forest resources is concerned with the opportunities for and the challenges to cooperation between people for mutual benefit in relation to the use of forests.
The four focus areas of teaching and research here in Tharandt are the economics of silviculture; forest valuation in the context of voluntary exchange (sale, purchase) and compulsory transfer (compensation for damage, restitution, etc.); the provision of goods and services from forests through political processes (public choice) and the economics of forest sustainability (political economics, institutional economics).
