Committees
Table of contents
Each person in the FSR has tasks for which he/she "commits" during the current legislative period. For this purpose, the FSR internal election of persons for each individual committee takes place at the constituent (first) meeting. There, all external, non-elected interested persons can also stand for such a position. The person with the most votes (simple majority) gets the committee. Below is a brief list of these.
Management: Spokesman, financier and secretary
The core team consists of the elected members of the FSR. Among them are the positions of the 1st and 2nd speaker and financier in connection with the writing minute taker(s) (1 or 2). Their tasks include, among other things, preparing and following up meetings¹, chairing meetings¹, taking minutes¹, bookkeeping and cash management, and representing the FSR to the outside world.
From these altogether 5-6 positions also the management consisting of 3 persons forms. The management is able to act alone, if decisions about projects and finances have to be made outside of the meeting or during the lecture-free periods. The resolutions or decisions must always be justified afterwards before the FSR representatives. This prevents the 3 representatives from acting alone.

¹These tasks can also rotate in the period and are not necessarily bound to these bodies!
Study Matters
Program Coordinators
4 students (one from each course of study in the field of forestry) are appointed to manage and ensure the course of study at the beginning of April (summer semester). They represent an important part in the multi-year cycle of accreditation of the study program. Thus, surveys on the quality and teaching of the program and student inquiries are managed directly through their own working email addresses. In 2017, the first accreditation was successfully completed and implemented into the daily study routine. The review of the intended changes will take place in the form of a re-accreditation in the following years. These positions can also be implemented by non-elected students. The nomination is made by the FSR via mail to the department head and the faculty council. In addition, StuGaKo's have the opportunity (without voting rights) to attend every meeting of the Study Commission. This again serves to uncover problems in the daily study routine and the discussion with the professors within these meetings.
Study Commission
A total of 7 students sit on this committee (plus the 4 StuGaKo's). These can also be (as in the following committees) non-elected students. Topics of the department are discussed with the professors. The meetings take place every few months (about 3 - 4 times / year) in consultation with the members. Furthermore, 7 professors / PhD students of the different institutes and the dean of studies of our department sit in. Thus we have almost half of all votes and thus also a large say. The purpose is to "supervise the teaching activities" at the department. Decisions are made that are intended to ensure that the course of study can be studied. It is allowed and desired to bring in topics from the FSR to this committee or to point out problems of the department. The topics decided here are passed on to the next higher levels. (see following)
Technical Committee
In this committee there are 3 students together with several professors and PhD students. This body, self-imposed by the faculty, is the highest decision-making unit. Decisions from the study commission are discussed and passed on to the faculty. In addition, new developments at the TU or decisions of the faculty are exchanged and informed. Here it is also possible to talk about problems or wishes of the students and to critically examine the current situation at the department with the lecturers. Meetings are held monthly on a fixed date. The invitations to the meetings are sent by mail by the department in consultation with the members.
Audit Committee
A total of 4 students are delegated to this committee to monitor the examination process and compliance with the examination regulations. In addition, several other professors sit on the committee. The examination committee also meets monthly just before the subject committee. The 4 persons occupy one seat each for the 4 existing study programs of the department (Bachelor and Master Forestry, Tropical Forestry and Wood Master). The review board holds meetings separately by degree program, so only Bachelor and Master Forestry meet together. In case of dispute, the students have a kind of guiding or arbitrating function in favor of the applicants. The meeting invitation is sent by house mail to our FSR mailbox.
Faculty Council
An overarching committee of the 3 disciplines (forestry, geosciences, hydrosciences) at the Faculty of Environmental Sciences. Together, the decisions of the individual disciplines are discussed and critically considered. The committee continues to communicate to the higher division and the rectorate. We receive information on appointment procedures and the newly appointed professorships.
Student Council
The Student Council is the highest decision-making body of the student body. Two representatives (primary and substitute) are elected for the student council. Their tasks are according to §16 GrO: Deciding on guidelines, delegation to the units, deciding on the work program and budget, and much more. The meetings take place bi-weekly (Thursday from 19.30) in the STURA barrack on the main campus in Dresden.
Public Relations
Press spokesperson and team / Social Media
At least two students will be set up for e.g. tasks of press announcements / releases, pictures, documentation of FSR activities. This includes, among other things, the maintenance of the social media channels and the design of the FSR website. Together, the daily tasks and incoming information should be bundled and published or posted.
Taskforce
The goal of the taskforce is to connect the student and youth organizations of the city of Tharandt for joint events (such as Ersti-Pirsch and -Welcome, Forststadt-Pokal, and many more).
A student is appointed as "chairperson" to lead the communication and to communicate the ideas of the representatives to the FSR.
"Igel"-Team
A leader and at least two other students are assigned as an editorial team for the production of the campus newspaper Igel. The Igel has existed since 1993 and has been produced almost annually. Some special issues were added for festivities or special projects.
