Structure and restoration of secondary forests in Central Highland, Vietnam
In recent decades, the forest area is significantly decreasedin the Central Highlands of Vietnam. Thus, poor-quality forests account for 80% of total forest area nowadays . My project focuses on the restoration of secondary forests, with the aim of recreating natural conditions of primeval forests. The [0]examination area is located in Kon Ka Kinh National Park, Gia Lai, Vietnam.
The project will study the structure of both, secondary and primeval forest, by analysis of frequency distributions of diameter and height variables. The differences between those two forest types will also be examined by using linear mixed effect models. Spatial distribution of trees will be analyzed by using replicated point pattern theory. Another focus of my project is to explore and compare plant species diversity indices. I also do some analysis on gap distribution and regenerating trees, due to generate information on processes of natural succession.
In conclusion, project findings are crucial evidences for managers and foresters, particularly in Central Highlands, to propose measures to restore and conserve secondary poor forests effectively and to provide habitat and living conditions for flora and fauna in the future.
