Complex excursion low mountain range
Content and objectives
On the basis of selected excursion areas, students are shown the variety of management options, taking into account the respective site conditions. The complex approach always includes aspects of site science, vegetation science, forest utilization, forest technology, forest protection and nature conservation.
In addition to the interdisciplinary discussions of the forest images, special focal points of the specialist areas of forest utilization, forest technology, forest policy and nature conservation are also an integral part of the excursion. Local forest managers make a significant contribution to the content of the excursion. These contacts, some of which go back many years, provide a solid foundation for this excursion. During the excursion, knowledge of the geology, climate and natural vegetation of various landscapes (Harz, Thuringian Basin, Vogelsberg region, Spessart and Fichtelgebirge) is imparted and, building on this, the respective forest management options are discussed. The focus is on the management methods for stands of the economically most important tree species in the low mountain ranges and hilly areas (oak, beech, sycamore maple, spruce, Douglas fir).
