Tree-ring parameters like ring width or wood anatomical features provide deep insight in tree functioning and growth, which is crucial in assessing potential impacts of climate change on forest ecosystems. By exploring the tree-ring archive, research projects running at DendroLab can therefore contribute to designing climate-resilient forests for the future. As tree-ring and wood anatomical characteristics are well preserved in subfossil wood and historic charcoal as well, our tree-ring based and so-called anthracological studies furthermore contribute to reconstructing forest composition and dynamics in the past.
